Out with the Old

A Moment Like This
Bowling for Columbine, The Bourne Identity and The Ring were dominating the big screen and Avril Levine and Nelly were topping the music charts.  These are just some of the things that were going in 2002 when Miguel Tejada won his MVP Award.
Fast forward 10 years and you have that same MVP winner asking for his release and having it granted it to him by the AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles( Norfolk).  Currently, he was hitting .259 and had 0 HR's with the team.  This marks the second player in a 3-day span to ask for his release from Norfolk; Jamie Moyer asked for and was granted his release on Saturday.  One can only assume the other ex-star on the team is next.  Dontrelle Willis was once the hottest prospect in the Major Leagues, but injuries brought him down and he was never able to come back to who he could have been.  He is currently an average pitcher at the AAA level, and as of today, the Orioles have no plans on calling him up to the Major League roster.
Peyton Manning is as good as new
At the beginning of the year, the top of the Orioles lineup had a promising 1-2 combo.  Injuries quickly ended the combo of Roberts and Reimold for the Orioles for the year.  Brian Roberts is now back and playing how everyone expected him to.  Reimold just had season ending surgery on his neck.  This was the same surgery that NFL Quarterback Peyton Manning had last year.  He was out for the year, but now he seems to be back to his old self, and Oriole fans and players can only hope that Reimold is able to come back and be 100% next year.
Love and Marriage
Dylan Bundy is still dominating at the A level for the Orioles.  I expect him to move up to AAA by the end of August, and depending where the Orioles stand in September, look for him to get called up to the major league level.  He is not the only young pitcher in the O's minor league system that could be called up soon.  Chris Tillman and Zach Britton are both currently in AAA and both expect to be called up by the end of August to help the back-end of that Orioles rotation.
Davis, Davis...( said in the Bueller, Bueller? voice).  This is what most people are saying about Chris Davis. It feels like he hasn't gotten a hit in the month of June.  It is not that bad, but it is bad enough that he was benched yesterday and Buck has come out and said he needs some time to get his swing together and that other players will be seeing some more time to give Davis all the time he needs to get his swing back together and get himself back in the lineup.
The Red Sox/ White Sox trade yesterday may have gotten the ball rolling on all the trades that are going to happen before the trade deadline.  Teams have to decide whether they will be buyers or sellers.  For the last 15 years or so, the Orioles have always been sellers.  At his "state of the union" address to Oriole fans, Dan Duqette declared that this season, the Orioles will be buyers and will look to bring in the talent necessary to compete into September.  The question will remain, will Angelos be willing to pay them what is needed?
